Author Q&A | Synopsis | Teaser | About the Author | Giveaway & Tour Stops

Hello Marie, welcome to BooksChatter.

What was the inspiration for He's So Fine?

"Usually my books are inspired by the Characters jumping up and down inside my head yelling me next, me next. In my personal reading, I had veered away from paranormals for a little while and had read a few step-brother romances that intrigued me. I think I wanted to challenge myself a little by writing in a different genre for a moment or two."
How much of yourself is reflected in this book, and how?
"A little piece of me is always in my books. Whether it’s an incident that actually happened to me, or who I’d like to be, I always picture myself as the heroine, just a little bit prettier and kickassier."
The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for He's So Fine - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"The artist is Amy Covers from Fivver. I found her through a recommendation from another author. Concept? Well, let’s just say all covers should show a fair amount of skin, don’t you think? You will notice, I almost hardly ever put a woman’s face or body on a cover. It’s so difficult to find stock photos with plus-sized models, and I like to picture myself in that role. Same with the male’s face – I want the reader to picture their hero, not mine."
Why should we read He's So Fine and what sets it apart from the rest? What makes your book unique?
"Almost all my books have a plus-size heroine, whether she’s a young adult or an older woman seeking a second chance at love. Those types of heroines are not readily available, even in indie publishing. I always give the reader a happily-ever-after. I won’t say my stories or unique, or that they aren’t unique. They are a love story, pure and simple."
Can you tell us something quirky about He's So Fine, its story and characters?
"Surprise, surprise, I have never met a MMA fighter, nor someone who summers in the Hamptons. In He’s So Fine, the two characters were completely figments of my imagination. But, boy, wouldn’t I love to meet Cage somewhere…preferably on a horizontal surface…"
Who would you recommend He's So Fine to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
" While this book is a new adult/college age romance – it does contain hot sex and dirty language. It is a story of first love/young love and I think women and men of all ages can connect with that."
If you could / wished to turn He's So Fine and the A BBW Stepbrother Romance series into a movie, who would be your dream team?
" Location- can’t get around that – the Hamptons. Actors- Christopher Pine, not sure about the heroine, I think we should introduce a newbie, uh, maybe me?"
What do you like to write and read about? Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
"He’s So Fine was a departure from my usual genre of paranormal. And I wrote in the first person. It was hard, let me tell you that. I don’t think my brain works that way, but I wanted to give it a shot. I love contemporary romance, but my love of all loves is paranormal. There’s nothing better than imagining a story about an alpha male bear or wolf or tiger or lion…sigh, I’m gonna have to start writing faster."
What is your writing process?
"Wait until the idea fairy sprinkles magic writing dust on my head and go from there. I usually try to get the intro scene in my mind first. That’s what grabs the readers—and my—attention and sets the tone for the rest of the story. I’m part panster, part planner, and almost always a frustrated writer when the words just won’t come to me."
What is in store next?
"I have a stand-alone (or not!) book coming out in a boxed set with some wonderful other authors. The boxed set is Wicked After Dark and my contribution is You Lucky Witch. One of the secondary characters is talking to me so who knows, maybe he’ll get his own story. The collection will be on sale only for the month of October, but after that you can get it as a stand-alone. Then, there’s a surprise in store for those who love BBW Shifter romances in December – again, I’m writing with some lovely ladies in a collection of holiday stories. Mine, tentatively, is Holiday With A Bear. After that, it’s Liam and Janet’s Story from the Blackwood Brothers’ Books."
And as a final quirky thing, to get to know you a little bit better... do you have a pet or something that is special to you that you could share with us?
"No pets. Terribly allergic which is ironic since I grew up with dogs. And no selfies, I’m very shy…"
