Escape [1]

In a world where class distinction means the difference between life and death, being on the Harvest List is the only way to guarantee survival for a young Producer. Only the finest examples of Producers are allowed to stay in the encampment and breed. The others are loaded onto carts and hauled away, never to be seen or heard from again.

Trinity, a sixteen year old Producer, knows that her name will not be on the List. She is as far from being a perfect Producer as she could get. She isn’t even pure-blooded. Her father is a House Servant and she’s spent her entire life hiding the traits that she inherited from him such as the ability to see in the dark, fangs and claws.

After a confrontation with a group of teenagers, Trinity decides to flee into the forest to discover what happens to those who are taken away by the ruling class. Her plan is simple. Step one: Follow the river; everything needs water. Step two: Learn the fate of the other teenagers and return home a hero.

What she doesn’t plan for is discovering strange creatures in the forest, being hunted by the Almighty’s Guards and captured by predators long thought to be extinct. She has one week to convince her captors to show her the fate of her kind and to allow her to return home before her mother is punished for her escape.

Chapter 1

TRINITY BRUSHED THE DIRT OFF HER HANDS and stretched, exposing her claws and giving the small of her back a good scratch. She was the last to finish preparing her fields for winter. Everyone else was gone, hiding in their huts. Producers did not like the night, but being half House Servant she didn’t mind it. When she was alone or in the dark, she didn’t have to hide her claws or fangs. Still, she retracted her nails as she bent to pick up the spade and hand trowel. It was habit now. She’d learned as a child that either she concealed her differences or her parents would. She ran her tongue over her large, sharp canines, so different from the Producers’ flat teeth. Mom and Dad had filed her fangs down only a couple of times before she’d learned to smile with her lips closed.
She tucked the tools under her arms and hesitated a moment to memorize this view of her home. The Producer village sat in a valley. On the north and where she stood in the west were the fields, fallow now and waiting for winter. Dirt trails ran down the hill and into the camp, most leading to the L. S. O’Dea 2 pine cabins huddled together in the center of town with fires burning in pyres outside each hut. A few paths broke free and escaped to the edge of town where smaller, older cottages like hers sat. Other trails led to Shadow Lake, fed from the Elavital River which flowed from the thick, lush forest on the south and east side of the valley.

Secrets In Blood [2]

Trinity's plans have gone horribly wrong and she is now fleeing for her life, but at what cost to her friends and family. Can she save any of them without sacrificing herself?

Hugh Truent, an Almighty, learns of Trinity’s escape and that she is the offspring of two different classes which is supposed to be impossible. If it’s true, it would be the discovery of a lifetime, but he needs scientific proof. In his quest for answers, he soon realizes that there are those who will kill to keep this find a secret.

Trinity’s struggle to survive in a society based on absolute segregation of the different classes along with Hugh’s dogged determination to find the truth at any cost, sets into motion a collision between the groups that shatters the foundation of their world.

Chapter 1

     “WHERE'S YOUR MOTHER” asked Gaar.
Trinity shook her head. Leaving her mom at the encampment had been one of the hardest things that she’d ever done, but there’d been no other choice. The Almightys had implanted tracking devices inside all adult Producers. It would lead the Almightys right to them. So, she’d left her mom behind to be slaughtered and eaten.
She had to focus on something else or the tears would come. She turned her head and stared at the carnage that had once been Troy. Mirra must not be very hungry because she was digging through his carcass looking for the choice parts and tossing aside the rest.
Gaar stepped in front of her, blocking her view. “We need to leave. The Almightys will send their Guards after us soon. Something like this—“he pointed at the body—“will not stay a secret for very long.”
Neither will the four dead bodies inside the camp. She wasn’t ready to talk about that either. Those deaths were her fault. If she hadn’t left or hadn’t come back, they’d all still be alive.
“Mirra. Stop.” Gaar’s tone was harsh and commanding.
The Tracker looked at him and snarled. He stood straighter and bared his teeth. Mirra slowly lowered her lips, a low growl rumbling through her chest.
“You need to go back the way we came and cover our scent and get rid of those bodies by the Finishing Camp,” he said.
“Mirra free Nirankan and others,” said Mirra.
“Soon.” His voice was softer now. “Little One and I need to lead the Guards in the other direction. Find us as soon as you’re done and we’ll drop Little One off at the Finishing Camp. Then, we’ll free the Trackers. I promise.”
      Mirra hissed

About the Author

L. S. O'Dea grew up the youngest of seven. She always wanted to do what her older siblings were doing, especially reading stories.

Ill at a young age, she immersed herself in books. Her life changed when she read a short story written by her older brother and realized that normal (somewhat anyway, since her brother was a bit weird in her opinion) people created these amazing stories. From that day forward, she wanted to write.

However, as with all good stories, obstacles rose in her path (mostly self-created obstacles) and it took her many years to put finger to keyboard and type her first book.

Hi everyone, I'd like to post a question.

How do you feel about romance in your YA scifi/fantasy books?

I've had one reviewer who does not care for it and several others who like romance in all their genres. Book one in the Lake of Sins series doesn't have a lot of romance, more friendships, but there are tiny seeds of romance planted that grow throughout the series. I'm curious as to how others feel about this.

Also, I will be at my day job so I won't be checking back in for awhile. I'm going to try and check back in on one of my breaks, but if I'm not able to I will check back in after work.

Thanks
L. S. O'Dea

Thanks Eva for the "good" luck. I can use all that I can get. Marketing the books is harder than writing them :)

Thanks for visiting and commenting.

Glad that you are intrigued. I hope that the rest of the book(s) keep you intrigued enough to continue with the series (when I get it done).
