"Goultown. The sort of place where kids could walk down the street in the middle of the night. Or accept sweets from strangers because strangers were just friends you hadn’t met yet. A place where grown-ups got tattoos of smiley faces and if kids graffitied, they were sure to do smiley faces too.

That was before the murders began. After Sally Ellerson drowns at the chocolate factory, you know there’s something weird going on. It’s time to take charge.

Choose Your Own Death is a path-picking adventure where every wrong turn unleashes an eldritch evil. If you don’t solve the mystery soon, the next death could be yours."

"Choose Your Own Death" by Marianna Shek is hilarious!

As the title suggests it is you, the reader, that holds your survival in your own hands by the choices you make.  As I was reading the book I lost count of the number of ways I had died, all rather imaginative and had me laughing throughout.  Whilst reading it evoked such comments (from me to my partner) as “ooops”, “I should not have done that”, “it seemed like a good idea”, and “I died again!", as I was choosing what to do.

This fast paced, easy to read story is not lightly put down; I had to find out all of the ways I could die after completing the book, so I read it again.  The choices are not always obvious, which appealed to me.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a light read, a good laugh as it is fun for all readers!  The sense of adventure is unavoidable.

The feel of the story is assisted tremendously by the talented illustrator Tara Brown.  Tara captures the ghoulishness of Goultown delightfully.  The author and the illustrator really work well to produce a harmonious story.

Do you do the sensible thing or do you take a gamble?  The choice is yours readers!
