Synopsis

The time of the Unity has ended. Now, the realm of man is stranded between Paradise and Purgatory. The Valkyrie and Reaper battle over the fate of all who pass from the land of the living and into the afterlife.

Eight mortal spirits from vastly different worlds tread the same, inevitable path toward their last, crucial decision. Within them all exists the defining conflict every man must face—to look upon the end of their life with glory and honor, or to give credence to their baser longings, calling the Reaper to their own demise.

In this rich, harrowing tale of pride, deceit, honor, vengeance, and redemption, each individual must battle their inner turmoil, facing the sacrifices they have made before their unavoidable end in the land of the living.

But their last day in life is also their first day of death amidst the terrors of the underworld. Lord Master Death wants them all…and the real battle has only just begun.

The Final Voyage of the Sapphire Lady

Part 1
She was a cruel and unforgiving mistress. Mood fickle and unpredictable, her fury was matched only by her passion. She had laid waste to all who tried to conquer her, all who stood in her path. She carried a proud magnificence, possessed of infinite beauty and allure. She captured men’s hearts and watched them die as they were consumed by the cold depths of her being. She was the Cerulean Ocean, and Captain Dante Ramos was sworn to find her most hidden treasures. Then the debt would be paid, no matter the cost.
He had never fully acquired a mature comfort with the rocking of the sea. Beyond captaining a ship, he considered himself a swordsman, and no worthwhile swordsman cared for unsure footing. After all his years in command of the Sapphire Lady, he had learned to ignore the ebb and flow of the Cerulean beneath his heels. The Captain had taken the helm under the stars, as he was like to do on most clear nights. For all the discomfort he might feel at her touch, Dante loved to hear the vast array of songs the Cerulean had to offer. The breaking of waves against the Sapphire Lady‘s bow, the wind whipping her sails to and fro as they snapped and cracked against the night sky, the muted chime of the ship’s warning bell as she slowly shifted from port to starboard. Dante felt that the symphony of the depths was as engaging and moving as any music of man he had known. He had always loved meter and verse, the rhythm of a melody. He saw the raw beauty in all of it—the fast-paced fiddle and drum in a port town tavern, the robustness of the classical pieces played by the Queen’s Capital Orchestra, or the resonate baritone voices of his own Cerulean Corsairs as they belted a shanty while setting sail.
It was a bittersweet fortune offered to him every time Dante’s senses found the wondrous music of the world. It reminded him of what he owed, and of what he owed her. It was an impossible debt, he knew, but it would be paid in full. He would see his own body, every last man who sailed under his banner, and the Sapphire Lady herself resting in the cold fathoms of the Cerulean’s arms before he ever surrendered the debt. No one could truly appreciate why he did what he did, though most spent their fair share of time wondering at the Captain’s motives.
