Deliverance
What was the inspiration for Deliverance?
"Well, this might sound a little odd, but the inspiration for Deliverance came after a bizarre dream I had one night while I was pregnant with my now 2 year old daughter. How much of yourself is reflected in this book, and how?
I woke up feeling like I'd just been in The Twilight Zone and for some crazy reason I can't quite understand, felt the overwhelming need to write down every single thing I witnessed in this dream. I jotted down about eight pages worth of what I'd seen, heard, and experienced and then kind of left it there for months.
As my pregnancy progressed, I forgot about it and I concentrated on accommodating my house to welcome baby #5. It wasn't until I entered that nesting stage in my pregnancy, and I began rummaging through my closet, that I found the notebook and realized I should go to my laptop and start on this project right away. I wrote maybe 5 or 6 chapters before calling it quits. It sat on my memory drive for another 6 months or so.
After my daughter was born, and I had settled into a nice routine, I started where I left off months before. I worked on Deliverance on and off for almost a year."
"The heroine is very stubborn, and so am I. Or so I've been told. When she sets her mind on something there's no stopping her and that's a lot like me."The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for Deliverance - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"The cover for Deliverance was designed by the very talented Najla Qamber. She has designed the covers for my Secrets of the Moon saga, as well as Blood in the Shadows, which is an anthology by author Stephanie Keyes and I.Talking about the Secrets of the Moon series, readers can grab a FREE copy of the short story A Taste Of Forbidden from InkSpell Publishing's Free Reads 2013 - epub, mobi and pdf format.
The concept was fairly easy to come up with. The cover itself has a lot of components that are important to the story. For example, the road, the couple holding hands, the half moon, are symbols that tell what the book is about."
Why should we read Deliverance and what sets it apart from the rest?
"I brought several elements together that I haven't seen in any other books that I've read thus far."Can you tell us something quirky about Deliverance, its story and characters?
"The male lead has no name. He is referred to as Tiger by the staff of the Institute he's been locked away in for his entire life. This was something I observed in my dream and decided to give life to when I went ahead and started working on Deliverance. Later on, the heroine names him in an attempt to make him feel more like a person and less like a valuable specimen.Who would you recommend Deliverance to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
As the story goes on, the reader will be able to identify with how Kristina does her best to treat the male lead as if he is an equal to her rather than a being bred and created for dark purposes."
"There's a bit of sexual tension between the main characters throughout the book and action scenes younger readers may find a bit tough, but rest assured nothing is over the top."If you could / wished to turn Deliverance into a movie, who would be your dream team?
"I honestly have no idea. At this point I haven't even given this a thought yet."What do you like to write and read about? Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
"My favorite genre is paranormal romance, which is odd considering I normally stray from reading this particular genre. I enjoy historical romances quite a bit, as well as contemporary romance, thrillers, horror, chick lit, romantic comedies, fantasy, and the occasional sci-fi."What is in store next?
"Deliverance was not originally intended as part of a series. However, as I finished the book I realized there was so much more to say that couldn't all be crammed into the this already long book. So as new ideas came in, and after a conversation with my publisher, I decided the gang needed a sequel. There's more to the mystery that needs to be revealed, as well as a new threat determined to end the male lead."And as a final quirky thing, to get to know you a little bit better... do you have a pet or something that is special to you that you could share with us?
"I used to have 4 parakeets. Unfortunately, one died recently and I'm left with 3. But they will not let me get anywhere near them."Oh, poor little one... We have featured a couple of parakeets in the past - they have such character :-) We have a few in our area and have been trying to attract them to our garden :-)
Thank you again for being with us, and have a great release day!
