Every time I set out to write a Brandon Fisher novel, I endeavor to come up with a serial murder investigation that will not only intrigue readers but also creep them out. After all, getting inside the minds of serial killers is a dark place and should have people sleeping with one eye open—or not sleeping at all!
In addition to the plot itself, I strive to ensure my characters are not only relatable but pinchable. They need to feel so real to the reader that they can feel their breath on their face. When characters are in danger, the reader should be on the edge of their seat gasping, wondering if they’re going to come out of this alive.
Reviewers have often said about books in the Brandon Fisher FBI series that they made them feel like they were involved with the investigation alongside the FBI. Feedback like this makes my soul sing because it means I did my job as an author. I want to make sure that my books let readers escape their realities and dive into the world and situations I’ve created.
And no story would be complete without a theme that runs through the story. In On the Count of Three, I stress how there are consequences to our actions—some we’d never imagine and are far more reaching. It also shows that our choices and actions affect people we don’t even know.
On the Count of Three takes readers to Miami, Florida, where it seems a serial killer is targeting people who have already served time for DUI vehicular homicide. As far as the victims were concerned, they’d paid their debt to society, but they couldn’t be more wrong. I hope to shock readers with the killer’s true motive and drive in doing what they do.
