A big welcome to BooksChatter to CC Koen. First of all, let me explain the main picture of this post... I would normally use an image of the author, but of course I could not find one of you, CC (and I did try!), then I spotted that your teasers had the chap I refer to as "The Deacon Guy" (as that is when I first saw him!)... funnily enough I was just joking yesterday that maybe I should use a picture of him in every post ... even my partner likes him... and he is straight! Anyway, I am sure that image is going to be eye catching ;-)
Now, moving on to the actual Q&A... What was the inspiration for Unlikely Allies?
The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for Unlikely Allies - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
If you could / wished to turn Unlikely Allies into a movie, who would be your dream team?
And talking about new releases, do check out Serenity on CC Koen's website, where it is now available for pre-order. She also has two absolutely kick-ass playlists for this book!

Now, moving on to the actual Q&A... What was the inspiration for Unlikely Allies?
"Unlikely Allies is my second novel. The story originated from a writing prompt posted in a critique group. I had no idea the prompt would turn into a novel. I’m so glad it did, because I absolutely love the premise of Unlikely Allies. There is nothing sweeter than a little girl who wraps a man around her finger."How much of yourself is reflected in this book, and how?
"In Unlikely Allies there is a particular dark scene that is closely related to something that happened to me when I was a child. Also, I listen to music daily, and a Rihanna song nudged me to include the event in this story."I am glad you mentioned music as I absolutely love music and finding out what others listen to, especially in relation to the books they pen! I had a look on your website, and I can see that you have playlists for all of your books - I will therefore take the opportunity to share your playlist for Unlikely Allies here. I presume that the Rhianna song you are referring to is the one included in your playlist, Russian Roulette.
The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for Unlikely Allies - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"I LOVE my cover. When I saw it on selfpubbookcovers.com, I knew immediately it was the perfect choice for Unlikely Allies. Even though I purchased the cover, I added the title, author, and logline myself. I enjoy the graphic design process and create my own teasers and promotional materials."Why should we read Unlikely Allies and what sets it apart from the rest?
"I’m a sucker for a man that has a soft spot for children. This particular story is a romance, but getting the hero and heroine together happens because of the four-year-old girl, Cece. If you enjoy a wholesome story that has a lot of twists and turns, then Unlikely Allies is the book for you."Can you tell us something quirky about Unlikely Allies, its story and characters?
"The little girl, Cece, is very boisterous and headstrong, which provides a lot of opportunities for quirky things to happen. My favorite is the beginning, when Cece wanders into Rick Stone’s office looking for her pet mouse."Who would you recommend Unlikely Allies to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
"Although I consider the story to be a sweet romance, it is an adult contemporary romance that is recommended for readers over eighteen. There are situations and language that would not be appropriate for younger readers. "
This is definitely the "Oh, My..."edition... |
"I’m not very knowledgeable about directors, but I can recommend a celeb cast for Unlikely Allies. What do you like to write and read about? Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
Heroine: Maggie Tyson:
Karen Gillan
Emma Stone
Lindy Booth
Hero: Rick “Max” Stone:
Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Eddie Cibrian
Dean Cain
Chris Pine
Noah Mills
Marlon Teixeira"
"I really enjoy suspense and mysteries. Therefore, there will always be some type of suspenseful event in my stories. I’d really like to write a suspense/thriller novel along the lines of Harlan Coben. I am fascinated by his stories and those of other suspense authors like Roxanne St. Claire. I enjoy the pace and the challenge of trying to figure out who done it."What is your writing process?
"I’m an emotional writer and have to be in the right mindset. Sometimes life events and stress prevents me from focusing, and other times, writing helps clear my head. I never know from day to day what will happen, so I go with the flow and write as often as my brain allows me.What is in store next?
When I am writing, I generally have the TV on or music playing. However, if I’m editing, I need my surroundings to be completely quiet since I like to read out loud and listen to the story."
"I’m currently working on Serenity, which is the sequel to my first novel, Intensity. It was impossible to resolve the story in just one book. The characters, Serena and Linc, have a lot to resolve in order to reach a HEA."Thank you so much for chatting to us, CC, and we wish all the best with the rest of the tour and your future projects.
