A very warm welcome to Madelle Morgan; thank you for joiniing us on BooksChatter!

We love music and are therefore delighted that Caught on Camera has an official playlist - enjoy!

What was the inspiration for Caught on Camera?
"Rachel, the heroine, is a chambermaid at a luxury resort in Canada’s summer playground for wealthy families and sports and entertainment celebrities. As a teenager, I worked briefly as a chambermaid at a Muskoka resort, and, decades later, was inspired to write a series with an upstairs/downstairs trope: people in the Hollywood filmmaking industry fall in love with local service providers. I adore romantic comedy, am fascinated by filmmaking, and wanted to explore some of the careers involved.

Caught on Camera is about Rachel’s experience as a stand in bridesmaid at an A-list actor’s wedding, and her romance with Mickey, a groomsman and Hollywood talent agent. Other characters include an actor, stuntwoman, producer, entertainment lawyer, security guard, makeup artist, personal assistant, etc., and each will star in a book about finding love in Muskoka."
The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for Caught on Camera - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"The covers and “look” of the series were designed by Kim Killion. I wanted romcom/chicklit-type covers that would work on both sides of the ocean. You can see the covers for the upcoming Sex and the Screenwriter and Hollywood Hero on my Pinterest Boards. The dogs on the covers are important characters with distinct personalities! Mopette, a Maltese, was inspired by my sister’s bichon frise. Here’s Rudy at a Muskoka cottage a few years ago."

Why should we read Caught on Camera and what sets it apart from the rest?
"Caught on Camera will appeal to:
  • dog-lovers, because Mopette is an adorable scamp crucial to the plot;
  • fans of all things Hollywood for the movie references and chapter titles;
  • people who love music—the playlist features popular Canadian artists including Eva Avila who won Canadian Idol; and,
  • anyone who wants to escape into a fun story that will (hopefully) make them laugh!"
If you could / wished to turn Caught on Camera and the Hollywood in Muskoka series into a movie, who would be your dream team?
"Smooth and sexy Ryan Gosling would be my choice to play Mickey in the film version of Caught on Camera. Halden, the groom, is inspired by the extraordinarily handsome Chris Hemsworth. Heidi Klum would play Candy, the bride. A dream actress to play Rachel is trickier, because she is transformed from plain to pretty. In my imagination, Rachel looks like beautiful Canadian singer/songwriter Avril Lavigne—one reason why I chose her song for the playlist."
What is your writing process?
"I do something unusual, compared to any author I know. I write the first draft, and then I post the second draft on the social media site Wattpad.com. Over 5,000 readers from around the world read the draft of Caught on Camera, and provided comments and feedback that made it a better book. For example, I expanded the final love scene due to popular demand, and updated the language. I’ve started posting chapters of the second draft of Sex and the Screenwriter, free for anyone to read. The published books are polished and copy-edited, and include playlists. It might be interesting for fans to read and compare the draft and published versions. It shows how much work and word-smithing goes into writing a great book. I learned the craft by writing three novels before the fourth, my debut romantic suspense, Diamond Lust (renamed Diamond Hunter) was published. I’m devoted to making each book the best it can be, because this is my legacy, so it takes me a year at least to write a book."
What is in store next?
"Sex and the Screenwriter, Book 2, is Catrina the security guard’s story. She falls for a visiting screenwriter with writer’s block. He convinces her that acting out scenes with him using costumes from old movies will get his creative juices flowing. The winter nights are cold and dark in Muskoka, and acting is forgotten in front of a blazing log fire. Sex and the Screenwriter will be published in mid-2017."
Thank you again, Madelle! We hope you had a great tour!
