I Can Still Hear You is a powerful and deeply moving story which grapples with the universal pain of grief and the loss of a loved one. When Scarlett O’Connor loses her father at the age of 30, she’s forced to face the shambles that her life has become. With no money and no savings, the only thing that waits for her is a cryptic map and a mysterious letter. With nothing left to lose, she embarks on a trip to Maui for her father’s final adventure, to begin a treasure hunt which will force her to look deep inside herself and come to terms with her pain and grief.

Accompanied by her less-than-supportive fiancé, a close childhood friend, and an enigmatic man who was her father’s old acquaintance, Scarlett must decode the mystery and find the hidden treasure. But she knows she must face her fears alone, and calling upon the spirit of her father for guidance, she struggles to reconcile her emotions and uncover the treasure before her time in Maui comes to an end.

Perfect for fans of contemporary and women’s fiction, I Can Still Hear You is a gripping tale which will resonate with anybody who has struggled with the death of someone close. This book is a testament to the fact that even though we may have lost them, our loved ones stay with us no matter what challenges we face.

Author Q&A

Nicole BlackWhat group did you hang out with in high school?
"My friend circle has always been on the small side. I value close friendships so for me it is easier to have a few really close friends. In high school, none of my friends liked one another. I always felt like I had to spend time alone with each friend. Most of the time we would go to football games, the movies, and of course the beach."

What are you passionate about these days?
"My passion project revolves around getting one of my Dad's movies into the National Film Registry. The film is called Pretty Poison and it came out in 1968. It was an instant cult classic and to this day is highly thought of in the film noir category.

I have been trying to have it named to the registry so that it can be a part of film history forever for about seven years. Every year I tell myself that this is going to be the year it happens. Fingers crossed!"
If you had to do your journey to getting published all over again, what would you do differently?
"This is the second book I have published so I feel I learned most of my mistakes on the first one.

On this journey, I wouldn't change a thing, the timing seemed to work out perfectly. The first book [Fat Shame], now that is a different story. On that book, I would have listened to my own intuition that told me to keep the original title I was using. A well-meaning PR person told me that I must change the title. I did and I still regret that decision."
Ebook or print? And why?
"To me, there is nothing greater than holding a book in between my hands and turning the pages as I get deeper into the story. E-books are wonderful for many people, but for me, I prefer to stay off the computer when I'm reading."
What is your favorite scene in this book?
"My favorite scene in the book comes at the end, where Scarlett realizes that she had the answers she was seeking and she makes peace with her Dave, her late father's friend who helps her on her journey."
