My Music Playlist for In Over Her Head: Lights, Camera, Anxiety

by Krysten Lindsay Hager

Stop Myself by Calum Scott – A great song about relationships and break ups that reminded me so much of something Andrew would have written.  Really goes with Andrew’s style of music and why Cecily has always been such a fan.

Till I Found You by Phil Wickham – One of my favorite songs and I heard this after I was done with the book, but I felt it related to how Andrew is searching for something more in his life even though it looks like he has a dream life.  I felt these were lyrics he could relate to and maybe write down the line.

Give Me Something by Calum Scott – This reminds me of the scene in the kitchen when it comes out that Cecily misread Andrew’s poem.  Suddenly, she now knows how much he revealed of himself in the poem and she didn’t react to it because she missed the hidden meaning and he’s left feeling vulnerable.

Slow Burn by Kacey Musgraves – Just a well written song that feels light years ahead of so much music out there and like something Andrew would write.

Waiting for That Day by George Michael – George inspired so much of this series and this is one of my favorite songs of his.

This song feels like something Andrew would write about his own past relationships.  The Listen Without Prejudice box set inspired the scene in the book where Cecily is listening to Andrew’s boxset and realizes the lyrics are about a real-life ex and she says, “I just spent forty bucks to hurt my own feelings.”  Which is literally what I said about the album.

Flesh and Bone by Marina – I listened to this one a lot while I was writing the book.  This reminds me of how the models Scarlett and Neneh feel about the modeling industry and the criticism they get.

Never Be Ourselves by Savannah Conley – The lyrics just felt like something Andrew would have written and Cecily would have related to.

Was her perfect relationship real or was she in over her head?
