My Ideal Writing Space

I have made attempts to create an ideal writing space in my home. A corner of my bedroom has windows in each wall, and between the windows, in that corner, I placed bookshelves and a pretty little secretary desk. The shelves have all my writing references, books I used to inspire me and learn the craft, different kinds of mini-encyclopedias on specific subjects, cool books on language, my main references, etc. I decorated the top with pretty little things, like a blown glass dragon, a bowl of pretty stones, glass inkwells. I can look out either window.

I never use it. I write where I can, mostly, in my recliner, like right now, the laptop propped on a lap desk while I click away, tea (maple from Maine) steeping and likely to be forgotten in the next few minutes. It’s comfy, my feet are up, though I am propped fairly straight, and in the winter I have an electric blanket.

But when you ask me about my ideal writing space I keep wanting to think of something romantic. Large windows and a beautiful view. Lots of light. Maybe the windows are open, and the breeze is that perfect warmth, balmy and gentle, like the touch of angel wings. I prefer woods, and water. Maybe mountains.

I think I would like stained glass in the windows, so that the sun can dash colors across the book shelves that line the walls. A comfy chair is at the desk, and a little stool is under it, because I am always putting my feet up, or sitting on them, always gathering myself up. At work I broke a chair arm because I was always pushing against one side to get my feet under me. (So I guess this chair, in this ideal space, better be pretty sturdy.) I think I would pick a quiet and calm color, like a sage, for the walls. It would be a serene place, with two monitors, because two monitors are amazing, and everything at hand so I could just create away.

And with my luck, I probably would never manage to find the right time to write there, either. *cheeky grin*
