A very warm welcome to Rachael Tamayo; thank you for joining us on BooksChatter!

What was the inspiration for Carnal Knowledge?

"This book took a bit of time to come together.  When I started the series, (The Deadly Sins books) I knew that I would write one book for each sin.  Each sin would be its own story, the thread that connects the series being the deadly sins, not the characters.  So I moved forward after writing the first book (Break my Bones) with Carnal Knowledge.

I had nothing but an ending in mind, and I worked from there.  I knew that I wanted it to be a book that lingers after the reader closed it, and just how I wanted it to end.  It was a matter of working to build up to that through the course of the writing."
How much of yourself is reflected in this book, and how?
"I would say the law enforcement aspect in the book is a nod to me.  I spent twelve years as a 911 dispatcher and police/fire/ems operator.  I naturally know a lot about the inner workings of a police department, and I sprinkled a bit of that through this story."
The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover.  Can you tell us about your cover for Carnal Knowledge - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"BookSmith Design is the awesome cover artist that created this cover.  I went in not really knowing what I wanted, but they did such an epically awesome job on Break my Bones, I sort of gave her free reign to do what she liked, make it match the series and the tone of the book.

She did an amazing job and I was getting comments on the cover before the book even came out.  Carnal Knowledge is about more than one form of lust, and she did a perfect job reflecting that in the silhouette on the cover."
Why should we read Carnal Knowledge and what sets it apart from the rest?  What makes your book unique?
"I strive to make each book different.  A thriller is a thriller is a thriller, you know?

Domestic abuse, psychological terror, murder etcetera.  I have worked to put a twist on each sin and each story to make it stand out, memorable.  Not just another story about domestic abuse.  Not just another story about a serial killer.

This book is about a woman who knows she is next on a serial killer’s hit list, and what she does with that.  I can’t think of any book I’ve ever read that has taken that and twisted it quite the way I did in Carnal Knowledge."
Who would you recommend Carnal Knowledge to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
"Readers should know going in that this book is violent.  It’s a murder mystery, serial killer, psychologically twisted book.  It’s not graphic in the “every little detail” sense, but it’s got a good amount of blood in it.  There is also talk of sexual assault."
If you could / wished to turn Carnal Knowledge and the Deadly Sins series into a movie, who would be your dream team?
"I always have trouble with this question.  Honestly, I have no idea!  I would love to hear what readers think about this question though."
What do you like to write about?  Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
"I love psychological thrillers, reading them and writing them.  I like to write thrillers with some sort of plot twist somewhere along the way.

I’ve also written romance, and one supernatural thriller."
What is your writing process?
"I go in knowing very little.  Basic bones of what I want to write about, maybe a good beginning, an idea of an ending.

I let each scene come to me one at a time.  I don’t plan anything.  I don’t outline.  I just write what feels right."
What is in store next?
"Next in the series is a book called Mine—the sin of Greed.  This one has so many plot twists that the reader will get whiplash.  Look for it sometime next year."
Thank you for sharing, Rachael. We hope you had a great launch day and hope that you are enjoying the tour!
