Synopsis

Niamh is a good wife.

She learned early on that crossing her husband had consequences. Living quietly in the shadowed cage he has formed around her, Niamh suffers his secrets and bares the scars they leave behind.

On the night of her biggest humiliation Caleb enters the ballroom changing Niamh’s course forever. He brings safety to her dark world and introduces her to the possibility of escape. Will Niamh’s love for Caleb be the key to her freedom or will it be her undoing?

Author Q&A

Where did you get the idea for this book?
"I almost feel like this book was divine intervention. Or the idea was lost a long time ago under a pile of dirty diapers and breast pads. I do know that it developed out of necessity.

My oldest was not a good sleeper when she was younger and I either had to walk her in her stroller to get her to nap or, when it was colder, I had to strap her into her carrier and walk circles around our living room to get her to sleep and sometimes continue walking to keep her that way. No TV, no music, in complete quiet I had no choice but to let my mind wander."
What, in your opinion, are the most important elements of good writing?
"For me, it’s the characters. If I can’t get behind them then I can’t enjoy the story. If you couple that with a great plot that draws you in, then I’m not putting down the book.

I’m pretty easy to please and will see things through to end for fear that I’m going to miss the part when it finally got good."
Who is your favorite author and why?
"I’m a very loyal person, until it comes to my authors. I read anything and everything. Sort of allowing fate to bring me my books. Which means I don’t limit myself to one author. That being said, there are a few author’s I really enjoy and if I see their name on something I grab it.

Lisa See – I really love learning about the Asian culture through her eyes and experiences. The stories she writes really draw me in, the characters stay with you long after you finish the last sentence.

Diana Gabaldon – We could talk about the steamy bits here, but in reality, I love the humour she uses in her writing. Her characters don’t take themselves so seriously giving them a dose of humanity that is often missed in writing.

Kelly Armstrong – I’ve been reading her Women of the Underworld series for a few years now picking up a new book whenever I can. Of course I love that she’s Canadian, but love the power she gives to her female characters. There is also something about her writing, she deals with a lot of dark subject matter and fantastical material, but it doesn’t feel heavy or too far out there. She’s really grounded and you can depend on her to be pretty down to earth in her story telling."
What is your favorite quote and why?
"“Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough” ― Oprah Winfrey

Oprah has a great perspective on life, so it’s no surprise that this is her quote. I really like it because it highlights an area I have to work on.

One of my biggest flaws is seeing the neighbour’s grass as greener. Always looking at what I can achieve instead of what I have achieved. Seeing what more there is to do instead of what I have done. What I don’t have instead of what I have. I know I could be a happier person if I could achieve this kind of perspective. Which is kind of funny… this explanation of why I like this quote is exactly why I need this quote."
Any weird things you do when you’re alone?
"Why wait to be alone to be weird? Let’s see, today I was talking to myself in the grocery store. Trying to remember if we had frozen corn at home. I concluded that we didn’t, found what I was looking for and carried on."

About the Author

Born in Dundas, ON, Lilith Thorn is a restless wanderer. Her first move was to St. Catharines where she earned a Theatre degree at Brock University. Despite her parents’ wish that she would return home and work at McDonalds after graduating, Lilith refused and instead moved to Toronto to give acting the ‘Old College Try.’

After years of sacrificing her other passions for the stage and an empty bank account, she put away those dreams to say “Yes” to a different adventure. This took her to Dublin, Ireland for a few years where she met, fell in love with, and married another Canadian who took her to the one place she said she’d never live: Yellowknife.

After nearly a decade in Canada’s Great White North, Lilith looks forward to further adventures with her husband and two children, just about anywhere.

Lilith Thorn is a pen name, the pseudonym used to protect the innocent; that is, so she hopefully never has to explain to her mother-in-law over dinner that she has written an erotic novel.

Hello and thank you Bernie. I did and I didn't help with the cover design. I picked out the art work and had some veto power into the fonts, but the team at Tell Well put it all together. They did a really beautiful job. I'm really happy with the way it turned out.
