My Journey To Publication

I’ve always wanted to write.
I look at my son now and wonder if I was like him when I was little. He is forever making up stories with very complex plots for an eight-year-old (they were already complex when he was only four!).
After school there was no straight course to become a writer, and this was just the beginning of the internet, the options people have now just didn’t exist. I ended up studying French and German instead, and wanted to do a post-graduate degree in journalism, but was not accepted, probably for all the right reasons.
I ended up working in the luxury safari industry for some time – if ever there is a bug that can bite you, it’s that one. I love being on safari, the whole experience is different from everything else in the world. The animals and seeing them up close, the way the lodge staff look after you, the early mornings seeing the sun come up over the African savannah, dinners by the fire in the boma…in my book I describe it exactly as it is.
I ended up working and living in East Africa, and then had to move to Madagascar for my husband’s work. During this time, I really got busy with my writing, despite having been at it for an odd five years already.
Things started falling into place right before we left Madagascar to return to South Africa. I signed my publishing contract with The Wild Rose Press two weeks before moving home.
As we landed in Johannesburg, I realized what an amazing place Africa is, I’d love everybody to experience part of it, even if only through my books.
