ℚ The Veritas Deception [1] - Lynne Constantine

Today we have the pleasure of meeting up with author to talk about The Veritas Deception (, Sailor Dance Publishing, 302 pages), a Thriller.

What begins as a quest for justice results in a crisis of faith.

"Washington power plays, supreme court intrigue, religious relics, and chase for the ages.  Fans of Brad Meltzer and James Rollins will love Lynne Constantine's The Veritas Deception." - Anthony Franze, author of The Advocates Daughter.

"The Veritas Deception is a delicious blend of intrigue and desperation with a healthy dose of hope and resolution to satiate every reader's appetite for a great story.  Murdering morality is best served hot, which Lynne Constantine delivers expertly.  Incredible read." - Sandra Brannan, author of the Liv Bergen Mystery Series.

A very warm welcome to Lynne Constantine; thank you for joining us on BooksChatter!

What was the inspiration for The Veritas Deception?

"The idea for THE VERITAS DECEPTION came to me over twenty years ago when I was working full-time in the corporate world in marketing. Writing persuasive marketing campaigns made me realize how we are all susceptible to having our behaviour changed based on the images and messages that inundate us on a daily basis. From this, the overall theme emerged, and I wrote a story about an individual using the power of marketing as one of the tools in his arsenal to manipulate society."
How much of yourself is reflected in this book, and how?
"There is a lot of me in this book. Some of it professional experience, but more of it philosophical and spiritual beliefs. I think that’s one of the reasons the book evolved so much and took so long to complete—I wanted it to be a compelling story told through my character’s voices and not my own."
The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for The Veritas Deception - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"My editor gave me the idea for the cover. There is a thread running through the book dealing with ancient religious relics and she suggested we build on that for the cover. I worked with a talented woman who did my book trailer, Rachel Bostwick, and together we found the images and colors that best represented the book. My sister is the one who recommended we incorporate crosses into the font of the title."
Why should we read The Veritas Deception and what sets it apart from the rest? What makes your book unique?
"THE VERTIAS DECEPTION delivers a timely message while entertaining at the same time. My hope is that it gets people thinking about the choices they make and how to ensure that those choices are really their own and not unduly shaped by the barrage of voices we hear from the entertainment world, media, lobbyists, and advertising."
Can you tell us something quirky about The Veritas Deception, its story and characters?
"The golden retriever in the book, who has quite an active role in helping the protagonists, is named for my golden, Beau, who we lost a few years ago."
Beau
Who would you recommend The Veritas Deception to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
"I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good story. I’d also recommend it to readers that enjoy stories with a spiritual thread running through them."
If you could / wished to turn The Veritas Deception into a movie, who would be your dream team?
"Dream team director would be Francis Ford Coppola, Location would be Washington, New York, Greece. Jack Logan - Bradley Cooper, Taylor Phillips – Natalie Portman, Young Damon Crosse – Robert Downey, Jr., Older Damon Crosse - Al Pacino"
What do you like to write and read about? Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
"I write both thrillers and women’s fiction but even the women’s fiction is now taking on a darker edge and would be categorized as domestic thrillers. I enjoy reading psychological thrillers, domestic thrillers, and mainstream fiction, as well as non-fiction books on writing and craft."
What is your writing process?
"Depending on the project, I figure out a deadline and work backwards. I like to write in the morning before doing any other work, otherwise I get distracted and never seem to come back to the page. I generally write in an Adirondack chair in my office instead of at my desk (where I do other work), and I listen to Mozart while I write."
What is in store next?
"This is the first in a planned series. There will be more trouble for Taylor in the second series – hers and Jack’s happiness will be short-lived. There will be a new antagonist in Book 2 – a charismatic leader with, of course, a hidden agenda."
And as a final quirky thing, to get to know you a little bit better... do you have a pet or something that is special to you that you could share with us?
"I have my closest pal, Tucker, who follows me everywhere. I don’t have a picture of us together, but here is one of the hundreds that I have of him. I am dazzled by his cuteness every day!"
That is simply cutness overload!  Love his back legs - my cat Onyx sleeps like that :-)
Hello Tucker - you are simply too gorgeous!  Lots of cuddles to you!!!!

Lynne, thank you very much for sharing Tucker with us!
