Article 15
Here at BooksChatter we love music; do you have a music playlist that you used in Article 15 , or which inspired you whilst you were writing it?
"Although I don’t have a dedicated playlist for this story, my second book, Crossroads, is, I believe, the first novel ever with a soundtrack.
After all, a story whose characters are musicians should have… well… music. Right?
It is definitely my go-to playlist for any kind of road trip."
"The lustful terror I always feel watching Kathleen Turner, Linda Fiorentino and Sharon Stone in the movies Body Heat, The Last Seduction, and Basic Instinct, respectively."
Wonderfully wicked characters, all—characters I could only wish I had created. That’s where the opening line of the novel comes from: “She was one in a million and the day I met her I should have bought a lottery ticket instead.” "How much of yourself is reflected in this book, and how?
"I’m a Commercial Pilot and Certified Flight Instructor. When I lived in Denver, Colorado, flying out of Arapahoe County Airport, many of my trips west took me up around Laramie and through the central Wyoming Basin. I have to admit that some of the empty cross-country hours through the Cowboy State were filled with idle fantasies of having a ranch with a private airstrip…like Griff. "The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for Article 15 - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"When I first started publishing my novels, I wanted a visual motif for my covers that would not only readily identify my work, but be easily readable in thumbnail size on-line.Can you tell us something quirky about Article 15, its story and characters?
I studied the covers of my favorite authors: Joseph Heller, Kurt Vonnegut and Carl Hiaasen. I liked that they all had cartoonish artwork, so I came up with the three-panel format.
The cover for Article 15 combines Helena’s iconic Ray-Ban Jackie Ohh sunglasses and Griff’s Navy SEAL Sig SAUER P226 pistol."
"I couldn’t resist the opportunity to pay homage to another of my favorite writers in the form of Griff’s Hillbilly lawyer. The scenes in Kentucky are a celebration of the man who created the whole Justified world, Elmore J. Leonard. It does give one pause…"Who would you recommend Article 15 to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
"This is definitely ‘R’ Rated. See my previous answer above about lustful terror. "If you could / wished to turn Article 15 and the Griffith Crowe series into a movie, who would be your dream team?
"Hitchcock—absolutely, positively—and any one of his cool blonde femme fatales for Helena—though I certainly would not turn up my nose to Kathleen Turner or Sharon Stone in their prime. A young Lou Diamond Phillips (Standing Bear from Longmire) would work for Griff."
What do you like to write and read about? Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
"I am always interested in interesting people. For me, characters are what capture my attention as a writer. So, whether as a reader or writer, I’m pretty much a genre gigolo. What is your writing process?
I read and write murder mysteries, police procedurals, romances, young adult, black humor, espionage/suspense and science fiction. I’d take Ritalin for it, but who wants to go through literature medicated?"
"Up at five in the morning, grab a cup of coffee and start piling up the words. Lather, Rinse, Repeat."What is in store next?
"Griff and Lance will definitely be making a reappearance in a sequel called Outside the Wire. And as a final quirky thing, to get to know you a little bit better... do you have a pet or something that is special to you that you could share with us?
But first I have a couple of other stories in the queue to finish up: Jungleland, a sequel to my first book, My Brother’s Keeper; and Motherless Children, the fourth installment of my Murder by Munchausen future crime series."
"Meet our Labrador Cat-triever, Frank, a feline who thinks he's a canine. He often serves as my adult supervision."
M.T., thank you so much for sharing Frank with us; we used to have a dog-cat, she was amazing, but unfortunately she passed away last June due to FIP :-(
We hope you are having a great tour!

ReplyDeleteWhat's your favorite part about writing?
ReplyDeleteThe very best part is that you get to make stuff up. And when it doesn’t work out, you get to make it up again and again until you get it right.
