A very warm welcome to Adesanya; thank you for joining us on BooksChatter!
What was the inspiration for your story, Regina?
Why should we read Regina and Queens of Hearts and what sets it apart from the rest?
I am really sorry to hear about that; they become family members. He reminds me of one of our latest rescue babies, a seal-point, Moonshine, from Sardinia.
Thank you so much for sharing Chicago Snow with us.
What was the inspiration for your story, Regina?
"First of all, let me thank you for hosting me. If anyone has any questions or comments or whatever, don’t let me stop you from asking them. How much of yourself is reflected in this book, and how?
As for my story 'Regina' in the DCL Publications' anthology Queens of Hearts, I was given the idea with very little time to actually write the story. I found myself fiddling with one of my dreadlocks and that became the main inspiration for my story."
"I would say Regina is…. 25% me. Again, fiddling with my locks inspired me."The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for Queens of Hearts - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"I had very little control over the cover, but Jae El Foster did the cover design and sent it to me to see how I liked it and... I’m a huge fan of the model [CJ Hollenbach]. Who can say “No” to that face?"
Why should we read Regina and Queens of Hearts and what sets it apart from the rest?
"I find African and African-descended characters severely lacking in stories today. It’s nice to see them and in this case I’m the one who brought it."Can you tell us something quirky about your story, Regina, its story and characters?
"Regina is very interesting. Her locks bring about questions and it's how she answers them that speaks volumes about things. One thing she doesn’t like is being asked her age… but it takes a LONG time to grow hair like hers."Who would you recommend Regina and Queens of Hearts to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
"I think anyone can read this, but it is very Afrocentric in its way. So if that piques your interest, dive on in."If you could / wished to turn your story, Regina into a movie, who would be your dream team?
"I’m not a huge one for movies, but the first name that popped into my head was Alfred Hitchcock."What do you like to write and read about? Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
"I wrote what the Muses tell me to write. That can, and has been, all over the genre map. In another iteration, I wrote science fiction, which I am going back to in Emotional Withdrawal."What is your writing process?
"I sit. Place the laptop in front of me... and hope for the best."What is in store next?
"I am working with Jae El Foster on a new series called Emotional Withdrawal. The only hint I can give you is the first book is on its way and the next is still being developed."And as a final quirky thing, to get to know you a little bit better... do you have a pet or something that is special to you that you could share with us?
"Last Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) we had to put my most beloved cat Chicago Snow down. It was a blow both because he was an incredible cat, but he was also two years older than my youngest child. That’s one of those deaths I doubt I will ever really get over."
I am really sorry to hear about that; they become family members. He reminds me of one of our latest rescue babies, a seal-point, Moonshine, from Sardinia.
Thank you so much for sharing Chicago Snow with us.
"Thanks again for hosting me. If you liked what I had to say, maybe go donate some money in Chicago Snow’s name to your local animal shelter."
