Synopsis

Nyl Jayms is tasked with kidnaping the Elder princess, to force her brother, the king, to negotiate with humans. The alternative is a war that could lead to the annihilation of both humans and Elders.

A Rider Council faction, led by Nyl’s father, is opposed to any negotiations. They will do anything, including sabotaging his assignment, to trigger a war.

Nyl and his team have to outsmart the king’s elite Royal Guard, to get to the princess, and somehow stay one step ahead of the faction opposed to negotiations. Everyone will be forced to re-evaluate ideology they were raised with, as an impending war looms ever closer.

Join these elite teenage rebel warriors on a journey of war, betrayal, and political scheming, in Until We Are Free. In this debut novel from TM Blayte, faces of friends, family, allies and enemies will blur. Loyalties will be tested, until the determination to be free becomes the only thing that matters. After all, does one person’s freedom mean another person’s oppression?”

Teaser: Exclusive Excerpt

I first look right, then left, before shutting the curtains. This is private property, but one can never be too sure. Maybe even that won’t be enough. His Majesty’s Flies are everywhere. Skulking on everyone’s wall, and reporting to the king.
When I’m sure I’m safe, I walk back to my bed, and kneel in the semidarkness. The only lighting in the room comes from a lamp on my desk. It is all I need. I take the red book lying shut on the bed. This book, one of only twenty in existence, has been in our family for more than a century. All twenty were a gift from the wronged prince, Tavengwa Natsai Taphara.
As I open the book, I’m sure most UI citizens would think me a devote believer, busy at my afternoon meditation. If only they knew. The words written in this volume are nothing any priestess of the Divine Mother would want to hear. It takes an effort to focus on the words written in red on the pages, instead of focusing on the horrified, colourless eyes of an Elder priestess, if she were to see the artefact in my hand.
“I swear, never to rest, until the Elder race has fallen. I give my life for the human cause. Human freedom comes first, everything else second and I come last. For the freedom of my brothers and sisters, for the liberation of the unborn generation to come, there is no price too high to . . .”
“Really, Nyl? You guys are so damn dramatic,” a voice quips from the doorway. “Seriously, if this rebellion business doesn’t work out, you all have the theatre to fall back on.”
When I was thirteen years old, I might have jumped. But three years of awakening to absurd drills, at even more absurd times of the night during Rider Training Camp, will make one forget how to spell the word ‘surprise’. By instinct, I spin around, preparing to attack, when I freeze at the sight of my intruder.

A sixteen year old rebel is faced with two dangerous foes, the King's Royal Guard, and his own organisation led by his father. Nyl Jayms becomes a puppet in the hands of people trying to engineer a war. Can he start questioning himself, in time to save both humans and Elders?
