Synopsis

Betrayed by a lover, Jamie rents an isolated cabin on Lake Huron, wanting only to be left alone. Instead, he is pulled from his solitary existence as an artist and tumbles headlong into the legend of Saint Nicolas.

As a young man, Nicolas accidentally killed a man intent on murdering three children, only to have the man's malicious spirit rise up against him. Fleeing through the centuries from the Krampus, the evil troll-like creature that dogs his steps, Nico finds refuge with the young artist who takes him into his home and bed. But Jamie has questions. Who is Nicolas, and why does the Krampus want to destroy him?

When the Krampus begins to torment and torture anyone Nico comes in contact with to punish him, Jamie’s life is put in danger. And Jamie isn’t sure whether he can help Nico defeat his nemesis or if he’s merely a pawn in the Krampus’s game.

“I’m glad you sent Piter away,” he murmured against Jamie’s lips, wondering if he could ever get enough of his kisses.
Jamie’s sweet breath warmed his face. “He’s not the one I want,” he panted, nibbling Nico’s mouth. He pulled back, a frown creasing between his brows. “Besides, he frightens me.”
     Nico’s heart stuttered. “How so?”
Jamie blushed, but the troubled look returned to his eyes. “He’s passionate and beautiful, Nico, and I can’t help responding to his sure touch. But he also repulses me, as if there’s something rotten inside him. And twice now he’s called me naughty in a triumphant tone, as if he’s won something from me, though I don’t know what it could be. It scares the hell out of me, though.”
Nico’s arms convulsed around Jamie. Cristo! What had he done? He never should have come here. Better if he had let the current on the lake take him out into the middle. He would have frozen and ended his torment instead of bringing it upon this lovely man.
Jamie struggled and Nico loosened his hold, though he wouldn’t meet his eyes and resisted when Jamie cupped his face to turn him. Jamie made an exasperated sound and sat up, pushing against Nico to make room. “You need to tell me what’s going on, right now, Nico.”
Panic had seized Nico, the fear that Piter would at last win. But Jamie’s firm tone sent hope surging through him. Very few men had stood by him in the past. Piter had seen to that, either driving them off in terror or taking them to his own bed. Neither of these things had worked with Jamie. They still had a chance.
He looked up and met Jamie’s worried gaze. “Piter and I have long been enemies. He hates me, and because of this will try to hurt me through you. He’s done it with others. I fear you’re not safe with me.”
“I won’t let him come between us.”
Nico shook his head. “You don’t know what you’re saying. He’s very powerful, more so than you can comprehend. I betrayed him in the past and he will stop at nothing if it means wounding me. Understand, he can climb into my mind as well. There is no place I can hide from him. I wish to God I could send you away, Jamie! But it’s too late for that. I will not deny you and he knows my feelings.”
     “I’m not afraid of him.”
     “Then you are a fool.”
Jamie’s eyes flashed as he fought to keep his anger in check. Nico waited. Jamie would leave now and Nico would be alone again. Despair filled him, but it would be better this way.
A touch on his hand pulled him out of his dark thoughts, and he blinked at his lover’s determined expression. Jamie suddenly reached out and grabbed the back of his neck, pulling him down for a harsh kiss.

About the Author

Dianne grew up in one of the older homes in the middle of Los Angeles, a place of hardwood floors and secret closets and back staircases. A house where ghosts lurk in the basement and the faces in the paintings watch you walk up the front stairs. Rooms where you keep the closet doors closed tight at night. It’s where her love of the mysterious and wonderful came from. Dianne is the author of paranormal/suspense, fantasy adventure, m/m romance, and anything else that comes to mind.

She now lives in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon with her incredibly patient husband, who puts up with the endless hours she spends hunched over the keyboard letting her characters play. Dianne says Oregon’s raindrops are the perfect setting in which to write. There’s something about being cooped up in the house with a fire crackling on the hearth and a cup of hot coffee in her hands, which kindles her imagination.

Currently, Dianne works as a floral designer in a locally-owned gift shop. Which is the perfect job for her. When not writing, she can express herself through the rich colors and textures of flowers and foliage.
