Today we have the pleasure of meeting up with author Anna Durand to talk about Dangerous in a Kilt (16 December 2016, Jacobsville Books, 271 pages), an Erotic Romance, book one of Hot Scots series.
5 STARS -- TOP PICK "For two wounded people who discover they care more than they should, emotions just can't be ignored. This is a well written, classic but contemporary romance story. My emotions were up and down right along with Erica's and Lachlan's. I knew there would be a HEA, but it was the journey, characters and smoking hot sex scenes that kept me turning the pages. The characters were all realistic and I loved Erica's dog, Casey. Lachlan has two brothers and three sisters, so I hope to be enjoying this family in many more stories to come."--The Romance Reviews

To start, Anna has shared with her her music playlist for Dangerous in a Kilt. You can find out more about her choices on her blog - which also includes two tracks that were not available on Youtube; “We Will Not Be Lovers” by Shaye, and “Got a Light?” by Tara MacLean - enjoy!
"The opening scene was inspired by the Australian pop song "Mr. Mysterious" by Vanessa Amorosi. Music always plays a huge part in my writing process, but this was the first time a song directly influenced part of the story. I decided to make the hero Scottish because I'd started researching medieval Scotland for a planned historical romance. I couldn't wait to write about a hot Scot, though, while I did the research -- so I created a contemporary romance with a Highlander hero."How much of yourself is reflected in this book, and how?
"My quirky sense of humor inevitably bleeds over into my fiction, especially with my heroines. Erica also has a dog, and I've always had furry, four-legged buddies. I'm still waiting for a hot Highlander to sweep me off my feet, though! In the second book in the Hot Scots series, my heroine is a librarian like me, and as I write the book she's becoming the character who's most similar to me of all those I've written so far."The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for Dangerous in a Kilt - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"I wanted a hot guy in a kilt, period. Seriously, what else needs to be on the cover? :-) I love the red color scheme too, since red is the color of passion."Why should we read Dangerous in a Kilt and what sets it apart from the rest? What makes your book unique?
"Every author has a unique voice, so I wouldn't compare myself to anyone else. I set out to write a contemporary erotic romance that a) has no kink in it, b) features a Highlander hero, and c) achieves an epic feel thanks to intense emotion and passion. I've seen other romances about modern-day Scots, but I haven't come across any series focusing on feisty Americans colliding with hot Scots."Can you tell us something quirky about Dangerous in a Kilt, its story and characters?
"Well, it wasn't intentional, but Erica turned out to be named after the heather plant. I'd already named her when I looked up native Scottish plants (for a pivotal scene in the book) and discovered the iconic Scottish flower, heather, bears the Latin name Erica cinerea."Who would you recommend Dangerous in a Kilt to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
"It's an erotic romance, so beware of the sizzling sex scenes! :-) "LOL, yep, don't be surprised by the graphic content ;-)
If you could / wished to turn Dangerous in a Kilt and the Hot Scots series into a movie, who would be your dream team?
"I'd love to see Chris Hemsworth play Lachlan. He's a bit younger than Lachlan, but he's just the right type for the part -- strong, sexy, and capable of sweetness. Of course, the end would have to be filmed in Scotland, especially since Lachlan's hometown of Ballachulish is a real village in the Highlands."What do you like to write and read about? Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
"I love to expand my horizons, though I stay within the romance genre. I've written paranormal romance and plan on diving into historical romance too. Almost exclusively, I read romances -- though on occasion I enjoy an urban fantasy too."What is your writing process?
"I gave up linear writing a couple years ago, and now I write scenes as they occur to me, whether that's chronological order or not. Some scenes I wind up not using, but most end up in the final manuscript. I used to think I had to write chapter one, then chapter two, then chapter three, and so on. Problem was, ideas for later scenes would pop into my head before I'd written the first chapter! I realized everyone's process is different, and mine is nonlinear."What is in store next?
"I've already begun work on Wicked in a Kilt, book two in the Hot Scots series. The story involves Lachlan's brother, the ladies' man Aidan, and the American girl who resists his charms -- at first. I also have two unrelated books coming early next year, the paranormal romance The Mortal Falls and the erotic romance Fired Up, both award-winning books."And as a final quirky thing, to get to know you a little bit better... do you have a pet or something that is special to you that you could share with us?
"Back in August, I got two adorable little girl puppies -- sisters, of mixed breeds. They're now six months old and they keep me on my toes with their energy and enthusiasm."Awww, so cute :-D I bet they keep you busy and entertained :-)

ReplyDeleteMay I simply just say what a relief to discover someone that actually knows what they are talking about online. You actually know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. A lot more people ought to look at this and understand this side of the story. It's surprising you aren't more popular given that you definitely possess the gift.
