Halloween
It’s only a few days until my favorite holiday, Halloween! Why is it my favorite? There are so many reasons.
I love fall and everything about it. I love the weather and the change of the season with the pop of nature’s color palette. I love the decorations and the party of the day. I love all the creepiness of October leading up to the 31st.
One of my favorite things is all the television shows. From the horror movies each night to Halloween cooking competitions to special shows on the spookiest places. The ones that show the behind the scenes of all the haunted houses and hayrides and how towns celebrate keep me riveted.
Let’s talk about the costumes. They’re not just for the kiddos. You have one night to transform yourself. You can dress up like a scary monster, a pirate, a princess, a doctor, a sports player. Anything you can image, you can be it for that night. And like one character says in e, “A person can hide so much with a mask. Their identity, their facial expressions, their soul.”
Pumpkins. Not only are they decorations, they make super tasty treats. Pumpkin pie is one of my all time favorite desserts. Pumpkin pies also remind me of my childhood. The scent can bring it all back. My grandmother would make homemade crust for the pie. She always managed to have extra (pretty sure she did that on purpose.) She would slather it with butter then cinnamon and sugar. She would roll it up and bake it. I would wait until it was done and cut up before I scarfed the yummy treat down. And the best part, I got pumpkin pie too.
And the very best part of Halloween is the wonderment in the faces of the children and it marks the beginning of a magical time of year.
Thanks for having me! And Happy Halloween!
