Synopsis

Teens are turning up dead, and it will take a special team to catch a killer.

Derek Doyle has been a member of the Paranormal Investigations Team since the monsters revealed themselves to the world. Considering that he thinks a monster is needed to catch a monster, he’s definitely in the right place. As a lone wolf not used to letting many people in, neither man nor beast was prepared for the effect consultant Dr. Ever Chace has on them.

Growing up human in a world of supernatural creatures, Dr. Ever Chace has always felt a need to be special, to stand out. When asked to consult on a case where teens are being brutalized, she relishes the chance to make a difference and help stop a monster. But working alongside a wolf who she’s so drawn to could be the beginning of something Ever might never have envisioned.

Fate and Destiny have a funny way of creeping up on you when you least expect it. With a murderer on the loose, Ever and Derek will have to put their attraction to one another aside while the hunt continues.

Easier said than done… right?

Teaser: Quotes

“Do you not fear that they will be too tired from the trials to commence such a rigorous training regime?” There was concern in her sister’s voice—not for the warriors, she guessed, but for the loss of soldiers should they not survive the training.
“In battle, there is no rest. We fight until our enemy is defeated, or we bleed our last drop of blood. Our enemy will crush us if we do not have the stamina to last a day of fighting. Then it will be the blood of our kin that will be spilled onto the sands of time, and we shall perish, mere mentions in a history book.”
“Understood.” The warrior pulled out a curved horn and blew sharply into it. The shrill sound made her fellow sisters’ ears twitch as they stood, gathered the worthy, and with a fist over their chests, faced her. She bowed her head, mimicked their actions, and then they were gone; the only evidence they had been there were bloodstained footprints in the sand.

“And for God’s sake, D, kiss the girl already and get it outta your system. It’s been a while, I know, but you still remember the mechanics of it, right?”
His friend’s teasing brought a friendly growl from his throat. “Why, Ricky? You wanna give me lessons in kissing?” he teased back.
At the end of the stairs, Ricky turned back. “Nah, man. Everyone knows witches prefer cats… You ain’t my type, girlfriend.” With an elaborate snap of his fingers, he pursed his lips at Derek.

----------------
Her fingers reached out without her being conscious of it and traced the underline of his jaw. He closed his eyes and sighed. Her petting brought him some pleasure. His eyes opened a second later, the hazel of his eyes now mixed with amber as both wolf and man looked back at her. Her own pulse quickened as she continued to dust her knuckles over the stubble.
“I really should shave,” he said finally.
“Nah, I like it. You seemed too clean-cut before. This is the real you. Wild but calm. Rugged but stable. Not like the Mr. Stuck-up Agent I met a few days ago.”
He chuckled. “Has it really been only a few days? I feel like I’ve known you all my life.”

----------------
Caitlyn, in a rare show of affection, ghosted a kiss to his forehead. “Don’t be cliché, Donnie. Not all vampires like to mount the heads of their enemies on pikes for all to see.”
Then the tenderness was gone as Caitlyn rose to her feet, swiftly dismissing the dirt on her pants before walking away.
Derek held out his hand to Donnie, who grasped it and pulled him up. Donnie wavered on his feet but managed to stay upright.
“She loves me, really,” he told Derek with a smile.
“I can see that. Come on, Romeo, let’s catch up with Juliet.”
      “I can hear you both.”
“We know,” they said in unison as Caitlyn sighed.
----------------
Golden brown fur covered most parts of his body, with a faint stripe of darker brown—almost hazelnut—streaking down his muzzle. Intense amber eyes watched her with the same intensity that shone from human-Derek’s eyes. He was also bigger than your average sized wolf. The top of his head came just under the top of her hips, and my God, those teeth! Ever didn’t doubt that wolf-Derek would be able to rip her throat out in a single moment if he so wished. She was glad he seemed so taken with her.
----------------
“You cannot say such things to me. My life is not my own, and despite how much I may like you, I was made to rule. As a ruler, I must be strong; I must not let myself be given over in temptation.”
Strong hands traced over the bare skin of her stomach, and she shivered. She could not resist him, this man who made her whimper with one touch. She shirked free of his grasp and turned to face him, the handsome lines of his face making her heart go aflutter.
He backed her against a nearby tree, their presence shaded by the luscious green of the trees that surrounded them. The man who demanded she make him her champion pressed his body to hers, rotating his hips so that she knew how much he hungered for her as well.
Bracing her hands on his bare chest, she made to shove him away. Any one of her sisters could stride past and spy them. But he did not seem to care. His lips traced her jaw, sending her heart hammering against her chest, and then he continued down her nape. When his lips grazed the top of her breast, she could no longer withhold the moan that escaped her lips.
The smug bastard slipped his fingers into her hair and dragged her gaze to his. Molten heat shone from his eyes, and she knew then that she was in trouble.
“Destiny has many different faces, my forever,” he whispered in a low and husky voice that almost made her lose control. “And our destinies are entwined. Do not resist me, Ever.
