Synopsis
When friends become lovers, is there a chance friendship can turn into something more?Cyber security consultant, Sloane Cooper is dumped by her wanna-be politician boyfriend, his parting shot—not only are you the worst girlfriend ever, but you're a lousy kisser, too! “Miles?”“What?” He stopped with his hand on the door knob. His annoyance no longer flashed, but had it faded enough not to come roaring back at the shocking idea that just popped into her head?
“You date a lot, right?”
“I wouldn't say a lot.”
“But the point is, you kiss the girls, so you've had some practice and are probably a good kisser, I'm guessing.” If her sketchy memory was correct, he was a damn fine kisser.
His eyes narrowed.
Sloane kind of questioned her sanity too, but nonetheless blurted out, “I could be a better kisser. A best friend would help me practice, wouldn't he?”
It was amazing really, seeing Miles shove a wall up between them, shutting her out as if they hadn't known each other for the best part of two years. He'd always been so open and transparent. The guy she could ask anything of, share anything with. Now he was looking at her with a stranger's eyes.
Being caught in that stare was almost worse than having Todd dump her. Sloane's stomach knotted.
He yanked the door open. “Think about working on my game. I really need you on this project.”
And then he was gone, leaving nothing behind. Not even his usual warm and cheery smile.

The Series: Sellwood Novellas
Welcome to the thriving, eclectic town of Sellwood, a small suburb of Portland, Oregon. According to Wikipedia, “Sellwood-Moreland is a neighborhood on a bluff overlooking the Willamette River in Southeast Portland, Oregon, bordering Westmoreland to the north, Eastmoreland to the east, and the city of Milwaukie to the south. Sellwood originated as an independent city, as a rival of nearby early Portland on the 1,320-acre (5.3 km2) Donation Land Claim of Reverend John Sellwood, who sold the claim in 1882 to the Sellwood Real Estate Company. The town of Sellwood was incorporated by the Oregon Legislative Assembly on February 25, 1889. It was annexed by the city of Portland in 1893.”But the town is more than streets and businesses and houses. It’s about the people who live and work there. And the people who fall in love there. The Sellwood novellas and short stories are about fictional people who are connected by community, but no less real in our hearts.
The Sellwood Stories are Novellas for busy lives.

A Merry Little Sellwood Christmas [2.5]
by Susan Lute - A Sellwood Short“Deck the halls with boughs of holly...”
It's time to put down roots, and all Victoria Cahil wants is to keep the promise she made to her eight-year-old niece, MacKenzie. They would spend Christmas Eve in their new Queen Anne colonial home. There was only one hitch in her plan. The house needs more work than she anticipated, and Chief Deputy Gavin Stevens has put the derelict house on his “dangerous buildings” list.
Okay with his bachelor status, Gavin hasn't given a second thought to finding a family of his own...or the love of a good woman. He's survived being orphaned at a young age, Marine boot camp, three tours in a war zone, and is not often taken by surprise. But when a fiesty house renovator calls him on the carpet for condemning the sow's ear she's determined to make into a silk purse, he begins to wonder. Can he survive the provocative Tori Cahil with his heart...and bachelorhood intact during a holiday season when Christmas miracles are practically the norm?
Heartwarming stories about family...community...and the journey home

About the Author
Susan is an award winning, multi-published traditional and Indie author. Her début novel, Oops…We’re Married? was a Reader’s Choice nominee and Holt Medallion Finalist. She describes herself first and foremost as a wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, dreamer, and novelist. An ardent student of human nature who loves ancient history and myth, she didn't grow up planning to be a writer. That didn’t come until much later, after her first publication – a little known article for Listen Magazine titled, Jessie’s Choice.Other things you should know: Susan is the oldest child of a military family. She’s travelled to many places over the years, but has never been to Ireland, Paris, or Crete, an omission she hopes to someday correct. Her favourite places in the world are New York City, Sedona (Arizona), Ouray (Colorado), and Bath (England). And she believes the best things in life come in unexpected packages. She writes whenever she can. In between she works as a Registered Nurse, reads, gardens, takes lots of photos, travels whenever the opportunity arises, and remodels her house. She LOVES dragons. Currently she’s working on the next novel in her Dragonkind Chronicles, and dreaming up a new contemporary romance.

ReplyDeleteHeading for The Day Job, but wanted to stop by and say thinks for hosting Sealed With A Kiss and giving a shout out to the Sellwood Novella series. This has been a fun series to write, with new titles coming throughout the year. I'll pop back in after work :)
ReplyDeleteWhere is your favorite reading spot?
ReplyDeleteHi Becky. If I'm sitting down to seriously read to finish the book, my favorite reading spot is on my couch--it's a big wrap around sectional and comfortable as all get out--I can see through the front picture window and the back slider from there. A lap blanket, comfy pillow at my back, and coffee are all I need to settle into the book. Otherwise, wherever I have a minute to read the next chapter, often leaning against the counter in the kitchen reading on my phone :)
DeleteReally great teaser! Sounds like a book I'll enjoy, I'm looking forward to checking out the whole series. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Victoria :)
