Today we have the pleasure of meeting up with début author to talk about Fear My Mortality (, Month9Books, LLC, 342 pages), a Young Adult Science Fiction Novel, book one of Mortal Eternity series.

“Fear My Mortality is a wonderful debut novel, with its non-stop action, unique fantasy twist, and a touch of romance. Everly Frost is a name to watch, and I can’t wait to get my hands on her next book.” — Karen Lynch, USA Today Bestselling author of the Relentless series.

A very warm welcome to Everly Frost; thank you for joining us on BooksChatter!

We love music; do you have a music playlist that you used in Fear My Mortality, or which inspired you whilst you were writing it?

"If Fear My Mortality had a theme song, it would be Fear on Fire by Ruelle.  It’s about holding on, sticking together, and facing your fears."
What was the inspiration for Fear My Mortality?
"I was sick a lot as a child and I used to wish for super healing so I’d get well faster.  It occurred to me that I might not be able to have that in reality, but I could definitely write about it!"
How much of yourself is reflected in this book, and how?
"I think Ava does have a few of my personality traits.  She’s very intuitive – she trusts her instincts – and that’s something I do sometimes, usually without thinking about it. I definitely can’t dance though!  That’s a skill I wish I possessed."
The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for Fear My Mortality - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"My publisher, Month9Books, always has beautiful covers, so I had no concerns about leaving it in their capable hands.  I love the dark colors and the girl’s intensity.  I also like the golden scorpion hiding near the font – please keep an eye out for it in the book."
Why should we read Fear My Mortality and what sets it apart from the rest? What makes your book unique?
"I hope that readers will like the way I’ve turned the world around – that ordinary human beings are invincible while the main character is mortal.  She has to be so much stronger because of it."
Can you tell us something quirky about Fear My Mortality, its story and characters?
"All of the hunter drones are bugs.  The WASP is the most prominent drone in Fear My Mortality, but there were also beetle drones in an earlier version."
Who would you recommend Fear My Mortality to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
"Fear My Mortality would appeal to readers who like a truly fast pace with lots of action balanced out with emotion and friendship.  I think it can be read purely for entertainment, but beneath the surface there are questions about how we value life and the importance of empathy. It’s for ages 12 and up."
If you could / wished to turn Fear My Mortality and the Mortal Eternity series into a movie, who would be your dream team?
"My dream director would definitely be J.J. Abrams.  Even before he directed Star Wars, he was making amazing television like Alias and Fringe.  What I really love about those shows is the way they combine action with heart.

In terms of the actors, I’d love Ava to be played by Ella Purnell and Michael to be played by Travis Burns."
What do you like to write and read about? Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
"My writing always has a fantasy or sci-fi element.  I’m really enjoying writing the world of Fear My Mortality as an alternate world, where changes in history have affected the present day.

I read a lot of sci-fi/fantasy novels but I also read contemporary."
What is your writing process?
"I used to be a pantser (write as I go), but now I’m definitely a plotter (write to a plan).  For the first book in a series, there’s a lot more scope to see where things end up, but with subsequent books there needs to be a purpose, a bigger picture."
What is in store next?
"Fear My Mortality is the first in an intended trilogy.  I’ve finished book 2, and I’m writing book 3.

Hints about future developments… Ava finds out a terrible truth and Michael faces tragedy.  Think snow and sand and shadows.  That’s all I can say for now, but I can’t wait to share with everyone."
And as a final quirky thing, to get to know you a little bit better... do you have a pet or something that is special to you that you could share with us?
"My piano is kind of special to me.  The music is there no matter what happens.  I used to write music, but these days I’m busy writing books instead."
Lovely picture - thank you for sharing, and thank you for taking the time to be with us today!
