Hello Angela!   Welcome to BooksChatter and thank you for joining us today.

Here at BooksChatter we love music; do you have a music playlist that you used in Dance With the Devil, or which inspired you whilst you were writing it?

"Thank you so much for letting me share my playlist!!  Here are my songs ☺"

What was the inspiration for Dance with the Devil?
"I have always wanted to write a shifter book.   Add to that the fact that I’m a cat person (as both my Twitter and Facebook accounts can attest), and, of course, I’m going to do cat shifters.   I’ve had the idea for Dance with the Devil floating around in my head for a while, but I couldn’t decide what type of shifters to use.  One day my son and I were at the Zoo and I saw these incredible white lions.  They were so majestic.   I knew then I had to do lions. "
The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover.  Can you tell us about your cover for Dance with the Devil - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"My cover artist, Kanaxa, did a fabulous job on this cover.   I am thrilled with it.   As a Samhain author, I am very fortunate because I’m included in almost every step of the process.   We (my editor, Kanaxa, and I) round-tabled several different ideas, but we always knew we wanted Jillian to be to primary focus of the cover because it really is her story.  We also loved the retro feel.   I think it really makes the cover pop."
Indeed.  ... and I just cannot stop staring at her jacket!

Why should we read Dance with the Devil and what sets it apart from the rest?   What makes your book unique?

"Dance with the Devil tells the story of a half-blood lion shifter who, despite the fact that she has spend the majority of her life hating both who and what she is, learns to love and accept herself.  The Jillian at the end of the book is almost unrecognizable.  She’s a powerful woman who has learned to own her own power."
Can you tell us something quirky about Dance with the Devil, its story and characters?
"I’ll tell you this, but you can’t laugh.  Okay, you can...I guess.   So Jillian’s best friend, Abbey, is named after my cat.   Abbey (the cat) is independent, high-maintenance, and loves shiny things just like Abbey the character.  A couple years ago, Abbey (the cat) stole my wedding ring out of my jewellery box.  It took me two days to find it.   She’s one of a kind, so she definitely needed a character named after her."
Who would you recommend Dance with the Devil to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
"I would recommend Dance with the Devil to anyone who loves romance, paranormal romance, and/or shifters.  Dance has a little something for everyone.  It’s filled with romance, mystery, and magic, tied up with a tight bow of sexual tension and sexy times. "
If you could / wished to turn Dance with the Devil and the Soul's Harbor Pride series into a movie, who would be your dream team?
"I love this question.  To start, we’d film at Johns Island in South Carolina.

Francis Lawrence would direct.

Carrick would be played by Chris Hemsworth and Zooey Deschanel would play Jillian."
What do you like to write and read about?   Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
"I have never met a genre I don’t like.  Right now I’m writing paranormal romance and urban fantasy, but I’d love to move into both contemporary and historical romance. My reading tastes are all over the board.  I read all types of romance, but I also love epic fantasy, science fiction, and horror. "
What is your writing process?
"My writing process is something I’m still trying to define.   I generally split each book into thirds. I’ll free write (no outline) the first third then read, revise, and make plot adjustments.  Then I’ll move on to the next third.  At the end of each third I’ll stop and revise the book from the beginning.  I like doing it this way because when I finally write “The End” I have a fairly clean draft to work with for edits."
What is in store next?
"I am currently working on the next Soul’s Harbor Pride book.  I have four books planned so far.  I am also working on the final book in the Shadow Born series.  And I always have a super secret project up my sleeve. "
And as a final quirky thing, to get to know you a little bit better... do you have a pet or something that is special to you that you could share with us?
"Of course!   I have a pink dragon that I always take to signings.  His name is Ralph, and he loves Hershey Kisses (so I always have a ton of those as well). What’s special about Ralph is that my son gave him to me to protect me when I’m away from home.  So everywhere I go, Ralph goes.   Here we are at the 2015 Lori Foster’s Reader Author Get Together."

  1. Just curious... why would you choose Johns Island to film at?

    1. Great question! I wanted to stay true to the South Carolina setting. Johns Island is the largest island off the coast of SC (and it's beautiful), so it seemed like the perfect setting ;)
