What was the inspiration for Trispero?
What was the inspiration for Trispero?
"My daughter, Devon. Devon is 18 years old and has Down syndrome, my stories are an homage to her spirit to promote inclusion and understanding for people with different abilities. As a father I wanted a way to share my message of hope after being frustrated by people's inability to see past her diagnosis."How much of yourself is reflected in this book, and how?
"One of the main characters, Jason, is a father and scientist patterned in many ways off of myself. The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for Trispero - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
The story, however is my heart and soul. The emotion and dreams are my message to the world about hope and inclusion. The story is not my life, but the message is my gift to those who read it."
"The cover is by a young New York based illustrator named Benlin Alexander. I loved some of his work because of the way he was able to capture the emotion of a scene. You can paint a beautiful picture that doesn't necessarily have emotion. Benlin has a gift of being able to truly make his characters emote. I portrayed a scene with descriptions of the characters and he captured it. You can feel the love and determination of Jason as he walks carrying his beautiful girl."Why should we read Trispero and what makes it unique?
"You should read Trispero because it is not only a great story, but a tale that will change how you look at people and what makes them special. Can you tell us something quirky about Trispero, its story and characters?
My book is unique not only because most of the science is accurate and based on true research, but because the message is a gift not just a journey."
"I grew up restoring old cars with my dad, so all of my stories have a reference to a cool car that has nothing to do with the story. You will have to read the story and tell me what the car is."Who would you recommend Trispero to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
"I have written this book to be read by everyone. I do think that people with family or friends who have different abilities will particularly appreciate the message. If you could / wished to turn Trispero into a movie, who would be your dream team?
There is drama, some adult themes, and excitement but no real warnings. It's rated PG-13."
"- I absolutely love Jon Favreau who directed "Elf, Iron Man and really one of my favorites "Chef". In his movie "Chef" I loved how he captured the dad's relationship with his son. What do you like to write and read about? Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
I pictured the lead to be Matthew McConaughey, I think he fits the role very nicely in the some of the characters he has portrayed before.
The locations are pretty easy only because the locations are a big part of the book mostly the Pacific Northwest, but also Denver and Ann Arbor Michigan."
"I love writing mysteries with complex story lines and with strong characters. I also love reading mysteries with strong characters, but my guilty pleasures are action adventure page turners. What is your writing process?
Before my current novel I wrote three children's earlier reader chapter books and thoroughly enjoyed that as well.
I would like one of my next adventures to be a graphic novel working with my illustrator to try to make some of my stories more accessible to my followers with intellectual disabilities."
"Typically I come up with a rough outline with my idea. After the outline I write as I go molding different parts of the plot with my outline. What is in store next?
One of the hardest things is to keep track of the characters when you write a little bit at a time. My day job as an orthopedic surgeon does not allow me long periods of time to put things together a little more logically."
"My sincere hope is to finish my Trispero series. The first book is just the beginning of a story about how we, as a race, grow and develop into something different. Growth of a society comes with great moments, tragedy, and surprise. The story itself remains in the human elements that make it all very special, for it is these human elements that are the basis for our growth."And as a final quirky thing, to get to know you a little bit better... do you have a pet or something that is special to you that you could share with us?
Thanks for hosting!
