A big welcome to D.D. Miers, thank you for talking to us on BooksChatter.

What was the inspiration for Dark Summoner?

"I remember listening to the song E.T. by Katy Perry.  She talked about this epic, out of this world love.

That concept struck a deep cord with me and I started imagining this other realm. During the week before I’d fully realized the idea, we’d been having a really bad weather storm causing lots of rain and thunder.  I’d spend time on my balcony watching mist as it covered over the green golf course behind my house.  I started imagining all kinds of nefarious creatures and this intoxicating man who would come out from the mist and scare them away.  He was dark, frightening and wickedly sexy.  Eventually, Dark Summoner was born."
The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover.  Can you tell us about your cover for Dark Summoner - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"When it came to the concept for Dark Summoner, I knew that I wanted something that enticed you with it’s dark beauty.  Something that had an immediate visual impact.

The girl on the cover is dressed in a beautiful red gown.  Red can often represent both love or anger.  It’s the extreme of two very opposite emotions.  The bare of her back and neck are exposed as she faces away from the reader, expressing her vulnerability.  A mysterious black smoke swirls around her.  Is it attempting to catch her?  Harm her?  Or cradle her?

You’ll never know unless you read it!

The artist is Sarah [Hansen] @ Okay Creations.  She’s fantastic and has a huge portfolio of amazing covers crossing various genres."
Why should we read Dark Summoner and what sets it apart from the rest?  What makes your series unique?
"I’m probably biased (*wink wink) but I think Dark Summoner and the Relic Keeper Series, bring a fresh approach to both Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy.  I think fans of both genres will enjoy this series because there’s a good balance of both the familiar and the new, mixed together with a lot of mystery.  There’s love, destiny, adventure, romance and betrayals.  It’s not an easy simple solution to the end and the story gets progressively darker, but there is light at the end of the tunnel."
Who would you recommend Dark Summoner to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
"I’d recommend it to Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance fans.  It has a lot of both elements.  It’s not overly heavy on the romance since there is a huge external plotline that drives the story forward.  That being said, romance fans will certainly not be disappointed.

There’s definitely adult situations and plenty of cursing, so I’d recommend this for 18+"
If you could / wished to turn Dark Summoner and the Relic Keeper series into a movie, who would be your dream team?
"Oh! Wouldn’t that just be fantastic?! I love seeing my favorite books brought to life on the screen so the thought of that happening to the Relic Keeper Series is overwhelming.

I’d love to have it filmed in a city like Boston and then move to Europe for the first realm.

What Starz has done with the Outlander Series is phenomenal, so getting to work with the creative team behind that series would be awesome."
What do you like to write and read about?  Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
"I enjoy writing paranormal and fantasy romance more than anything.  However, I do have a few ideas on the back-burner for a YA Fantasy series and some Contemporary/Suspense Romance.  When it comes to what I enjoy to read, it crosses all genres.  My favorites are the epic tales of good versus evil!"
What is in store next?
"Books 2 and 3 will be coming out in October only a few weeks apart.  Book One takes our heroine Abby from her “not-so-normal” life into the world of the first realm and the undeniably sexy men who live there. I t’s a world filled with mystery, ancient magic, immortals and deception.  We get a taste of the first realm and a real look at what’s at stake if Abby can’t claim her destiny.  The first book ends on a soft-cliffhanger  (That’s what I call the kind of one’s that don’t force you to throw the book screaming).

In Book Two, we dive much deeper into the first realm.  Abby is changing and growing in several ways.  The mortal world is at much greater risk and Abby is feeling the pressure to take a stand, but is she ready?  Book two ends on a very big cliffhanger so that’s why Book Three will be coming out very close after.

Outside of this series I’m working on two different sets of Novellas that will come out between now and the release of the Relic Keeper Series Books 2 and 3.  One set focuses on a Coven of witches and warlocks.  The other is a bear shifter set.  Plus a couple of great anthologies. I’ve also got some more great plans for full-length novels next year. I ’m hoping to have a great library of works out by Spring of 2016.  I love being able to offer readers an escape and what better way to do it, then offering a wide selection of fun and sexy PNR’s."
At this point I am now in the habit of asking for a get-to-know you better picture, but unfortunately that section was not there when we did this interview... however I have come across a picture posted by DD on her Facebook and Twitter pages which would fit in quite well...

The original caption reads: "My cat takes his job as 'Sentinel of the house' very seriously. Especially around my son. :)" - Animals are just great!
