What you are likely to find on our pages

We are an eclectic bunch and will read pretty much anything that comes our way!

Of course, with so much to read and so little time, the main discriminant is usually an eye-catching cover and a good bit of blurb.

We are interested in both Fiction and Non-Fiction, an our main areas of interest are:
  • Crime, Mystery & Thriller
  • Horror
  • Middle Grade
  • New Adult
  • Sci-Fi & Fantasy (any type of speculative fiction)
  • Teens & YA
  • Contemporary Romance
  • Erotic Romance
  • Women's Fiction
  • Literary Fiction
We also read the occasional bit of Cooking, Food & Wine, Health, Outdoors & Nature, Music Biographies and Craft & Hobbies (sewing, painting)

Our personal interests lie in nature photography, nutrition, technology & gadgets, DIY, gardening,  cooking, home brewing (especially all things mead), felines and board games (especially D&D and Pandemic).

Join us at here at BooksChatter for all things books (reviews, cover reveals and sneak peeks)!

Book Category

We follow the definitions set out by the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America for their Nebula Awards:
  • Short Story: less than 7,500 words;
  • Novelette: at least 7,500 words but less than 17,500 words;
  • Novella: at least 17,500 words but less than 40,000 words
  • Novel: 40,000 words or more.

Our rating systems

We use a rating system which is in line with Goodreads, as we feel that is a fairer system which is geared towards positive reviewing, unlike Amazon which appears to be skewed towards making bad reviews look better, presumably for sale purposes (as you can see from the table below).
NOTE: although GoodReads is owned by Amazon they use different rating systems.

If we do not like a book, we feel that it is good enough to say just that.
Do you really need a distinction between "I hated it" and "I did not like it"?
We do not think so; in fact we find it quite insulting.
An author deserves more respect than that for the work they did put into their book, no matter your personal opinion of it.  For this reason, our rating system never uses a ★   stars rating.

We however feel the need to distinguish between good writing and truly exceptional writing, hence our 10 steps rating system (where the empty stars are worth 0.5).

The Cat Posse

We currently live with eight kitties. These pics were taken today, 30 October 2015. Hover on the images and let them introduce themselves.
Tequila unfortunately left us just before Christmas 2015. She was a wonderful girl.

"My name is Tequila.
I was born in 1995 and I am the last one of 13 companions.
I currently live with 7 new friends, who are much younger than I am.
I am hyperthyroidal. I like pouches, tuna and prawns."

"My name is Lou Lou
I was born in 2005, Lucky is my brother. Together with Suze, we used to live with a lovely lady who passed away in 2014. Shortly after I developed a tumour in my spinal chord. Despite an expensive operation in early 2015, that looked good, the tumour is now back. I am incontinent and struggle walking but love chatting and cuddles."

"My name is Lucky.
I was born in 2005 and Lou Lou is my sister. I have sensitive bowels. I am told that I am grumpy, but also love belly rubs and chew sticks. I believe all catfood comes from a tin and will not touch anything raw, or fish. Oh... I also slobber a lot when I get happy!"

"My name is Suze.
I was born in 2010 and was found in the woods inside a sealed and soaking wet cardboard box. I used to be a scaredy-cat... ok, I still am a little, but I am a LOT better!"

"My name is Fix.
I was born in 2012 in Sivota, Greece. My human mum found me whilst she was on holiday in the resort where I lived - I used to visit the restaurant for food. I love having a bird's eye view, and raw chicken (but not at the same time!) I am told I behave like a dog..."

"My name is Java.
I was born in 2014 and my human mum found me in Feb 2015 living in the streets; I was pregnant with two babies - Onyx and Kahlua. I LOVE prawns and my mum fed me lots of them during my pregnancy!"

"My name is Onyx.
I was born in April 2015. Java is my mum and Kahlua is my sister. I am told I am naughty, but, in my defence, my sister is worse. I love prawns, cuddles and raw chicken - it's a family trait. I also like to go upstairs by climbing the banister."

"My name is Kahlua.
I was born in April 2015. Java is my mum and Onyx is my brother. I love prawns, cuddles, raw chicken AND chew sticks! My speciality is retrieving hidden items.  I am also told I am naughty.  On a scale from 1 to 10, I like to think I am an 11 ;-)"
