A big welcome to Elise Pehrson, thank you for joining us on BooksChatter.

What was the inspiration for The Angelnots?

"I thought about the idea initially when I was riding across the state with a stranger.  I was listening to my ipod and was thinking of the idea as I listened to the song “My Heart is Broken” by Evanescence."
How much of yourself is reflected in this book, and how?
"Some here and there.  A lot of my thoughts are reflected in some of the opinions of the characters."
The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for The Angelnots - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"The cover depicts one of the two main characters, Olivia, as she discovers a building that will change her life forever.  It’s a library filled with secrets and magic. The cover artist is Neil Noah."
Why should we read The Angelnots and what sets it apart from the rest?  What makes your book unique?
"One of the goals I had in mind whilst writing this book was to provide a story that anyone could relate to and to create role models, especially for young teen girls.  So many young adult books push sex and don’t really offer much substance within the pages; I didn’t want to write a book like that.  I wanted to put my heart into a series.  I would rather spend decades of my life on one great series than have hundreds of books that are only “all right.”  So, I think that the number one reason you should read this book (and series) is because it opens up the mind to a new fantastical version of our world—one with relatable characters and a fresh take on life and of coming of age that will hopefully stick with the readers for years to come."
Can you tell us something quirky about The Angelnots, its story and characters?
"I included a fat cat because of my own silly fat cat:"

You can never have enough of them!

Who would you recommend The Angelnots to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?

"Anyone can enjoy this book, but the target audience is girls aged 12 through 17."
If you could / wished to turn The Angelnots and the The Unknown series into a movie, who would be your dream team?
"Hmmm….Let’s say:
Directior: J.J. Abrams
Leading ladies: Kristin Kreuk (as Olivia) and Mila Kunis (Alazne)
Leading man: Jesse Spencer
Location: New Zealand"
What do you like to write and read about? Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
"I like to write about the young adult and new adult experiences, whether that’s in the fantasy genre or contemporary. I also like to have strong female protagonists.

I like reading all different genres, particularly fantasy, contemporary fiction, and literary fiction."
What is your writing process?
"I think of what I want to write and map it out, and then I let it simmer for a while, writing bits at a time.  Then I string it all together and edit."
What is in store next?
"I’m working on the second book of The Unknown trilogy (which is the series that The Angelnots is a part of).  A hint I can give you is that we will learn the backstories of key characters from this first book. "
And as a final quirky thing, to get to know you a little bit better... do you have a pet or something that is special to you that you could share with us?
"Yeah! Since I already showed you a picture of my fat cat, here’s a picture of me with a kitten:"

Such a cute face!  The problem with kittens is they grow up too quickly!
Thank you for sharing them with us!
